LOVE PRACTICES PATIENCE
"...If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." -- I Corinthians 13:2
"Love is patient....“ -- I Corinthians 13:4
WHAT IS PATIENCE?
“The ability to accept delay or disappointment graciously!”
II. WHERE MUST WE DEMONSTRATE PATIENCE?
1. In our marriages! Proverbs 15:18
2. In our homes, as parents! Proverbs 14:29
3. In our churches! Ephesians 4:2, I Timothy 3:3, Titus 1:7
4. In our world! I Thessalonians 5:14
5. In our daily walk with the Lord. Romans 12:12, James 5:7, II Timothy 4:2
III. WHY IS IT DIFFICULT TO PRACTICE PATIENCE?
A. It goes against human nature.
B. It is a lifelong struggle.
C. It requires that situations must be constantly evaluated!
(1) Sometimes we think we are being patient, when really we are being passive.
IV. WHO’S THE BEST EXAMPLE OF PRACTING PATIENCE?
Jesus in Mark chapter 9.
1. Mark 9:1-8 He experienced the inconsistencies of Peter.
2. Mark 9:9-13 He tasted the ignorance of his 3 closest friends.
3. Mark 9:14-19 He listened to the rejection of Pharisees.
4. Mark 9:20-29 He encountered the skepticism of a father.
5. Mark 9:33-37 He withstood the egos of his disciples.
What do we learn from Jesus? I Peter 2:21
IV. HOW CAN WE PRACTICE PATIENCE?
A. Be realistic about people.
B. Work at the art of patient listening.
Proverbs 18:13, James 1:19
C. Learn to welcome interruptions.
D. Remember how patient God has been with you!
II Peter 3:9, Romans 5:8
